What is Omega 3?

The fish oil used is maxxiomega is menhaden fish oil, an omega-3 rich fish harvested in the federally-regulated waters along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Sources of Omega 3
Omega 3 supplements for dogs should contain both DHA and EPA fatty acids.
DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) are the most important anti-inflammatory fatty acids. They are also important building blocks for healthy cell membrane structure.
Fish oil (salmon, tuna, sardines, cod liver) and flaxseeds are source of omega 3. However, only fish oil contains the all-important DHA and EPA fatty acids.
Flaxseed oil does contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA can be converted into EPA and DHA but it is not as effective. This is why fish oil is required as well as flaxseed oil.
Fish stores fat either in the body (salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines) or in the liver (cod). The best fish oil for dogs come from fish that stores the fat in the body. This is because the body also stores Vitamin A and D in the liver and excessive level of those vitamins can harm the dogs liver.
