According to the American Heart Association, spending quality time with your pet may protect YOU from heart disease. It is however up to you to protect your dog’s cardiovascular health.
A healthy balanced diet and regular exercise (physical and psychological) are important in order to keep your dog in good shape and his heart healthy and strong. However, this is not always enough. Using maxxicardio as part of your dog’s cardiovascular health care can really make a difference for your dog’s heart as well as his longevity and quality of life.
All dogs can benefit from stronger muscle contraction, improved stamina, focus and heart health. Many dog owners use maxxicardio as a preventive measure, to support their dogs overall heart health and stamina.
Canine cardiovascular supplement like maxxicardio is especially beneficial for the following dogs:
* Dog breeds that are more prone to cardiovascular stress include Boxer, Doberman Pinscher, Great Dane, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Dachshund, and Bulldog.
Cardiovascular problems are more common in dogs than most owners realise. It is estimated that around 10% of all dogs suffer from heart diseases (The Cardiac Education Group).
The risk increases with age, but it is estimated that 20-25% of dogs between 9 and 12 years of age suffer from MMVD (Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease). Some dog breeds are also more prone than others to suffer from cardiovascular problems.
Early signs of cardiovascular problems can be easy to miss but the sooner heart problems are discovered the better. All heart problems are a serious health concern and can be fatal if not treated in time.
Which is why many dog owners choose to give their beloved dogs a heart supplement like maxxicardio, to nurture their cardiovascular health.
maxxicardio heart support for dogs contains carefully chosen ingredients that support and help maintain good canine cardiovascular health. Each ingredient has its own important role (see more information about each ingredient below).
Together the carefully selected mix of amino acids, minerals and vitamins works synergistically to support and maintain cardiovascular and circulatory health in dogs.
maxxicardio supports heart muscles, promotes normal circulation, supports regular heartbeat, helps reduce oxidative stress, promotes tissue health and helps balance cholesterol. This makes maxxicardio an ideal dietary supplement not only for dogs with heart issues but also for active dogs that endure cardiac stress on a regular basis.
The ingredients in maxxicardio not only support healthy heart function but they can also help to boost exercise performance. By supporting muscle growth & strength and improving circulation, maxxicardio can help build stamina and improve focus.
Both are very important for working dogs (e.g. farm dogs, police dogs, sled dogs, service dogs), as well as dogs that compete in various sports (e.g. agility, flyball, canicross).
maxxicardio can also help to speed up recovery from exercise related pain and muscle soreness.
L-carnitine is an amino acid (a building block for proteins). It is naturally produced by the liver and kidneys, then stored in skeletal muscle, heart and brain tissues.
How Does L-Carnitine Work for Dogs?
The body uses L-carnitine to turn fat into energy. L-carnitine deficiency is common in adult dogs which may result in increased fat storage and decreased performance.
L-carnitine is frequently recommended for dogs with heart disorders, including dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy (abnormal heart muscle, dilated being the most common). L-carnitine deficiency has actually been documented in 40 – 50% of dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy.
Studies have shown improvements in the cardiac function of cocker spaniels and boxers with dilated cardiomyopathy and one study demonstrated that L-carnitine can have positive effect on cognitive function in dogs (Animal Wellness Magazine).
A canine study published in 2017 found that L-carnitine aids both exercise performance and recovery of working dogs. It indicated that L-carnitine has beneficial effects on lean muscle mass and intensity of exercise. L-carnitine also “prevented exercise-induced muscle damage based on the reduced efflux of inflammatory enzymes and reduced oxidative stress during strenuous exercise”.
While this study concludes that L-carnitine promotes loss of body weight and body fat in overweight dogs.
Taurine is an amino acid that is found naturally in meat and fish. Taurine is a conditional amino acid for dogs, i.e. the body can manufacture it. However, dogs can develop taurine deficiency and therefore benefit from supplementation.
How Does Taurine Work for Dogs?
Taurine has many health benefits. It is present in greatest concentrations in the heart wall muscles, brain and retina. Lack of taurine can cause your dog’s health to suffer, specifically his heart.
Even dogs that are not deficient in taurine may benefit from taurine supplementation.
Studies have shown a relationship between low taurine levels and diagnosis of DCM (canine dilated cardiomyopathy). Vets are increasingly checking for taurine levels in dogs with heart issues.
While this study shows that taurine inhibits the release of adrenaline and has a positive effect on dopamine level. This has calming effect which helps dogs to focus (and explains why taurine is one of the key ingredients in our maxxicalm).
Hawthorn is a spiny bush with bright red berries that have been used traditionally for centuries to treat various heart problems, i.e. from irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, chest pain, hardening of the arteries, and heart failure.
Hawthorn berries have been shown to be a beneficial supplement for senior dogs and dogs with heart issues. It is also a valuable daily supplement for working dogs (i.e. dogs that endure cardiac stress on a regular basis) as it not only helps to maintain good cardiac health but can also improve endurance.
This is why hawthorn berry powder is often called “heart health tonic” or “cardio-tonic”, as tonic gives the feeling of increased vigour or well-being.
Not only is hawthorn one of the best studied herbal remedies for humans (it has been subjected to multiple rigorous placebo-controlled clinical trials and found to be consistently effective).
There is also a large amount of clinical experience in the use of hawthorn for treating pets with heart disease, generally with favourable results.
“Hawthorn appears generally safe and has been tested with most pharmaceuticals commonly used to manage cardiac and blood pressure disorders. The need for pharmaceuticals may be reduced or even occasionally replaced in dogs and cats treated with hawthorn” (VCA Animal Hospital).
Ginkgo biloba (a.k.a. maidenhair) is a tree native to China that has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine over the centuries. Modern supplements tend to use the ginkgo biloba leaves.
Ginkgo biloba supplements are associated with several health uses, most of which focus on the brain function and blood circulation.
How Does Ginko Biloba Work for Dogs?
Ginkgo biloba can increase the blood flow by promoting the dilation of blood vessels. This ability to increase dilation of blood vessels (peripheral vasodilation) suggests it should be considered as a component of treatment protocols for congestive heart failure (VCA Animal Hospitals).
Ginkgo biloba also contains high levels of flavonoids and terpenoids (compounds known for their strong antioxidant effects).
The studies on pets have mainly focused on brain function and behaviour, e.g. this study that found ginkgo biloba leaf to be a safe dietary supplement for an elderly dog with age-related behavioural disturbances (NCBI 2006).
There are however a number of studies on humans showing ginkgo biloba to be beneficial for cardio health. This study on people with heart disease revealed an immediate increase in blood flow to multiple parts of the body (NCBI 2008).
While additional research points to ginkgo’s protective effects on heart health, brain health and stroke prevention (Healthline).
Magnesium is a mineral that is crucial to the body’s function. Every cell in the body contains magnesium and needs it to function.
Magnesium citrate is magnesium bound to a citrate salt. This makes the magnesium more easily absorbed by the body and is therefore the preferred form of magnesium used in supplements.
How Does Magnesium Work for Dogs?
Magnesium helps to keep blood pressure normal, bones strong, and the heart rhythm steady (WebMD). It helps normalize an irregular heartbeat and works synergistically with calcium to strengthen the heart.
Magnesium (and potassium, also in maxxicardio) are important minerals for dogs with chronic heart failure. Deficiency of magnesium can exacerbate the potential side effects of cardiac medications and may cause other problems such as muscle weakness and cardiac arrhythmias (Vet Know How).
Magnesium can also help to boost exercise performance which is important for working dogs and dogs that compete in sports. It helps move blood sugar into the muscles and dispose of lactic acid, i.e. plays vital part in the contraction and relaxation of muscles.
Magnesium is not only a strong muscle relaxant. It also plays a critical role in helping to speed up recovery, whether it is exercise related pain and muscle soreness or related to other pain or nerve conditions.
Various studies on humans have indicated that magnesium may boost exercise performance, e.g. this one which shows how magnesium enhances exercise performance via increasing glucose availability in the blood, muscle, and brain during exercise (NCBI 2014).
Several studies have examined associations between magnesium intake and heart disease in humans. Results have been promising but large, well-designed clinical trials are needed to better understand the contributions of magnesium to heart health and the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (National Institute of Health)
Potassium is a mineral that is necessary for the heart, kidneys, and other organs to work normally (WebMD). Potassium is also necessary to maintain a proper fluid balance throughout the body.
Potassium is not produced naturally by the body, so your dog must get it through his diet.
How Does Potassium Work for Dogs?
Potassium levels affect muscle contractions. Low levels of potassium can cause muscle weakness and irregular heartbeat. Like magnesium, potassium is an important mineral for dogs with chronic heart failure.
Potassium also supports muscle growth. It sparks the growth of muscle cells which contribute to stronger muscles. Potassium also helps the muscles to contract and relax which improves the motor skills of your dog. All of which are important for dogs to do well in training and exercise.
A number of studies on humans have shown the positive effect of potassium on cardiovascular health. For example this one which concludes that higher dietary potassium intake is associated with lower rates of stroke and might also reduce the risk of CHD (coronary heart disease) and total CVD (cardiovascular disease) (NCBI 2011).
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient found in many foods and is required for the proper function of many organs in the body
On a supplement label, natural vitamin E is listed as d-alpha tocopherol, d-alpha tocopheryl acetate, or d-alpha tocopheryl succinate (as in maxxicardio). And with vitamin E, natural is better (Chiro).
Vitamin E is essential for a dog’s muscles, circulatory system, and injury healing. It is also a powerful antioxidant, i.e. helps to protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals (National Institutes of Health).

Canine cardiovascular supplement like maxxicardio is especially beneficial for the following dogs:
We always recommend starting slowly with any new supplement and gradually increasing the amount given. This allows your dog to get used to the new ingredients, both the taste and texture, and helps to minimise the risk of any potential stomach upset.
The recommended maintenance dosage is shown on the back of the label. If you are using maxxicardio for a specific health condition, then you may want to increase the dosage while getting the condition under control. The recommended saturation dosage is double the maintenance amount.
You can reduce the dosage to the maintenance dosage once the condition has improved. This is one of the many benefits of powder formulation. It is easy to adjust the dosage in line with your dog’s needs over time.
The easiest way to administer maxxicardio is to mix it in with your dog’s food. maxxicardio does not contain any artificial flavours, colours, preservatives or binders. It has a natural flavour and the vast majority of dogs happily eat their food when maxxicardio has been added to it.
However, there are always exceptions. If your dog is not accepting maxxicardio for some reason, please contact us directly and we will offer you some additional tips and support. If we cannot together get your dog to happily accept his new supplement, we will fully refund you.
Because no matter how effective maxxicardio is, it will not work if the dog is not taking it. Fortunately, when we have had the opportunity to work with the owners, we have in most cases been successful in getting the dogs to accept their supplements. Which is exactly what we both want. For your dog to feel better with the help of our product.
We do not accept any manufacturing batch unless it conforms to all product specifications.
The Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document issued by Quality Assurance which confirms that the product meets its product specification. It contains the actual results obtained from testing performed as part of the quality control of every individual batch of a product.
If you would like to see the Certificate of Analysis for your production batch of maxxicardio just e-mail us the LOT number (on the bottom of your container) and we will e-mail you a copy.
