What is L-Carnitine?
L-carnitine is an amino acid (a building block for proteins). It is naturally produced by the liver and kidneys, then stored in skeletal muscle, heart and brain tissues.
How Does L-Carnitine Work for Dogs?
The body uses L-carnitine to turn fat into energy. L-carnitine deficiency is common in adult dogs which may result in increased fat storage and decreased performance.
L-carnitine is frequently recommended for dogs with heart disorders, including dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy (abnormal heart muscle, dilated being the most common). L-carnitine deficiency has actually been documented in 40 – 50% of dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy.

What is Taurine?
Taurine is an amino acid that is found naturally in meat and fish. Taurine is a conditional amino acid for dogs, i.e. the body can manufacture it. However, dogs can develop taurine deficiency and therefore benefit from supplementation.

Taurine has many health benefits. It is present in greatest concentrations in the heart wall muscles, brain and retina. Lack of taurine can cause your dog’s health to suffer, specifically his heart.

Ginkgo biloba (a.k.a. maidenhair) is a tree native to China that has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine over the centuries. Modern supplements tend to use the ginkgo biloba leaves.
Ginkgo biloba supplements are associated with several health uses, most of which focus on the brain function and blood circulation.
How Does Ginko Biloba Work for Dogs?
Ginkgo biloba can increase the blood flow by promoting the dilation of blood vessels. This ability to increase dilation of blood vessels (peripheral vasodilation) suggests it should be considered as a component of treatment protocols for congestive heart failure (VCA Animal Hospitals).

We always recommend starting slowly with any new supplement and gradually increasing the amount given. This allows your dog to get used to the new ingredients, both the taste and texture, and helps to minimise the risk of any potential stomach upset.
The recommended maintenance dosage is shown on the back of the label. If you are using maxxicardio for a specific health condition, then you may want to increase the dosage while getting the condition under control. The recommended saturation dosage is double the maintenance amount.
You can reduce the dosage to the maintenance dosage once the condition has improved. This is one of the many benefits of powder formulation. It is easy to adjust the dosage in line with your dog’s needs over time.
